1) Post your favorite lyrics, poem, or quote for this week.
" Love at first is summertime, that's when you think that everything's fine. No one ever thinks it gunna end. When things go wrong and winter comes, you're gunna need to run to someone. Left alone you'll just freeze up again. But you should know, when it gets too cold, you're not alone. I'll melt the snow. " ~Shayne Ward 'Melt the Snow'
2) Develop two reflection questions that you would ask your students at this point in the course if you were a UN100 Professor.
-How do you think you have changed acedemically since the beginning of this school year?
-Do you believe you are working to your full ablility in all of your classes?
3) What are you passionate about? Why?
I'm not really sure. Haha. I guess I would have to say that I am probably the most passionate about my religion and sports. I have been raised by a loving family that have taught me how to build a strong relationship with God, and I think I have just picked up a lot of their passion and made it into my own.
I LOVE to play sports! So when I get on that court, or on that field, or on that track, I'm always going to give 110%. I want to do good, and I always want to improve.
4) How are you going to finance your three years of the Radiology program? If you will be in debt from student loans at the end, calculate roughly how much you will owe upon graduation.
Right now I am not in any debt... YAY! The money I have used to pay for everything so far has come straight out of my account at the credit union. I also have a couple awesome scholarships that I am getting some extra help from. But, next semester I do have to take out a smaller loan. I'm not exactly sure how much I will be in debt by the time I graduate, but I think it will be some where around $30,000 dollars. Yup, I'm not excited for that.
5) Have you changed your mind or do you have any new concerns about your program of study after our guest speakers today (Dr. Foley & Joanne)? Are you thinking of a different major or are you dead set on Radiology? What behavior(s) will you maybe have to change in order to keep up with and make the cut?
I have definitely not changed my mind about my major. I am pretty happy with radiology, but after hearing the guest speakers, I do have a couple new concerns now. I am very nervous for the fact that there will only be 10 people admitted into the program. I was always hearing 10-12 and 10-15. I thought for sure they were gunna have a couple more than 10. Darnit! Also, the way Joanne was talking, she didn't seem like grades were as important as I thought they were. Obviously they are going to come into play, but she didn't stress them as much as I thought she would have. She talked more about showing her that we could care for people. I know I can do that, but now I'm just a little more nervous than before.
I am definitely going to have to start managing my time a little better, so I can start giving myself extra time to sit down and plan this whole situation out.
6) FAST FOOD NATION (You should be reading through Chapter 7 at this point)Reflect upon the opening lines of Chapter 7:
"You can smell Greeley, Colorado, long before you can see it. The smell is hard to forget but not easy to describe, a combination of live animals, manure, and dead animals being rendered into dog food."
This must be an AWESOME place to live! I can totally smell it just by reading his description... and believe me, it smells great! Just Kidding.
-Have you ever read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair? If so, how does it relate to FFN?
Nope, I have never read The Jungle. I've never even heard of it.
-How high is the employee turnover rate in the meat industry and why don't the packing plants see this as a problem?
The turnover rate is about 100 percent annually. It's not a problem, because then the workforce is easier to control them, and it's harder for the workforce to unionize.
We discussed captive supplies of cattle versus regular farming. Reflect upon this quote from page 150: "To supply the beef slaughterhouse, ConAgra operates a pair of enormous feedlots. Each of them can hold up to one hundred thousand head of cattle..During the three months before slaughter, they eat grain..The grain fattens the cattle quickly, aided by the anabolic steroids implanted in their ear."
-Do you think that these animals' emotions (fears, stress, anger) affect the meat we eat derived from them? How?
Yes, I do think the emotions of the animals affect the meat we get from them. I'm not exactly sure how it would affect the meat, but just by knowing that if the animal is completely stressed out, its body can't be in that great of shape. .... I have no idea.
-How do you feel about eating steroids via consumption of "USDA Inspected" beef?
I'm definitely not to fond of the idea. It's actually pretty gross and .... yup i dont actually know what to say. I'm just really shocked to hear that.

Blog #6
Reflect upon one tactic we discussed in class this week concerning Procrastination, Study Habits, Retainment, or Test-Taking/Anxiety. (Choose something that you will probably try and discuss why).
One of the things week talked about in class last week was Test-Taking/ Anxiety. I am pretty bad when it comes to tests. 1) I freak out and tell myself I'm going to fail, and 2) I am trying to cram information into my head until the very last second.
I'm probably goin to start trying to relax for a little bit before the test. I should really just sit and calm down about 15 minutes prior to the test. Also, I'm going to start trying to be a little more positive. I've always been a good student, and I've never done absolutely horrible on tests, so I should be able to at least focus on some positive aspects before the test.

What do you feel this course (UN100) should focus on?
I think that this course should focus on teaching us different ways that we can improve our studying habits. I think we should also be learning about all the buildings on campus and what each one has to offer us.
What do you need help in, specifically? Please write at least one paragraph focusing on your specific academic needs.
I need help in developing good study habits. I am usually a good student, but lately I've been kind of slacking because I'm so tired. The reason I'm so tired is because I actually started meeting people and making friends so I've been hanging out 24/7 and not balancing my homework with my free time. I know we talked about this a little in class, by making those planners, but I am still having a difficult time managing my time. I could also use some help in studying. I can't seem to find a good way of studying unless it's a subject where I can use notecards.
